Shrub 1-1.5 m high. Twigs green, articulated, 1.5-2 mm thick, internodes 2-3.5 cm long. Leaves reduced, membranous, triangular. Male spikelets spherical, 2.5 mm in diameter. Female spikelets ovate, 9 mm long. Berries oval, red, 6-7 mm in diameter. Lower and middle mountain belt. Central Asia, Caucasus, Northwest China, Mongolia, Tibet.
